Happy New Year, and best wishes for 2024! I hope that you’re looking forward to the new year.
I’d like to take a moment to update you on “what’s new” with Crack the Books!
1). Tutoring is continuing, and openings for both my Private Tutoring and Small Classes are available.
- We currently have students spanning our entire age-range, from 6th grade through post-graduate programs. At the moment, our students are working on their writing and public speaking (current project: Michael Tougias and Casey Sherman’s The Finest Hours); their English for Academic Purposes (current project: Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein); their vocabulary and non-fictional reading skills (in preparation for the S.A.T.); and on completing a Creative Writing degree at the Ontario College of Art and Design.
2). This blog will resume!
- After a hiatus since we started in 2021/22 (see point #3 below), the blog will resume this year! For those of you who follow me on this site and/or on Facebook and LinkedIn, you will receive a quarterly update similar to this one. I’ll be continuing my series on “Why an Online Tutor?” and “Core Literacy Skills.” Now that we’re past the peak of the COVID crisis, there is a lot to discuss!
Reach St Pete Literacy Program, Spring 2022
3). Finally, some of you will be interested to know that I’ve spent most of the last two years building a Pilot Literacy Program with a non-profit organization, Reach St Pete, in south St Petersburg, Florida!
- This program provides free academic assistance to at-risk youth, some of whom are as young as Kindergarten. The program is holistic, offering free meals in addition to clothing, food, and hygiene for the families of the children enrolled. You can learn more about Reach St Pete’s Literacy Program here.
If you have questions or would like more information on any of these updates, please reach out to me! I look forward to sharing more with you as 2024 unfolds.
