Welcome to Crack the Books Tutoring—a new educational company, open to serve you as of August 20, 2021.
My name is Nicholas Wheeler, M.A., Ph.D., and I decided to start Crack the Books Tutoring because of a felt need that many middle school, high school, and university students all have for remediation and enrichment in core literacy skills. At the same time, recent technological change and the COVID crisis have combined to create new opportunities for online education. As an online tutor, I am uniquely positioned to help you improve your literacy.
A native of St. Petersburg, Florida—a “cultural capital” of the Sunshine State—I graduated from Shorecrest Preparatory School as a co-valedictorian in 2002. Even at that time, my career in education had already begun, as I oversaw our high school chapter of the National Honor Society’s volunteer tutoring program at The Learning Center (2001–02). I began teaching in earnest, however, during my doctorate at the University of Toronto, where I taught seventeen semesters of undergraduate tutorials.
I have lived and studied in both Washington, D.C., and Oxford, England; I have edited a peer-reviewed, scholarly journal; and I am both eager and excited to share these experiences with students everywhere, especially in my home state of Florida.
In the weeks and months ahead, I will be using this blog to share information, news, and resources with parents, faculty and administrators, and students. For my Florida students, I will be posting regular Florida-related educational news and resources, such as the University of Florida’s Summer 2021 update on completing the FAFSA and obtaining financial aid.
Stay tuned! I look forward to working with you.
